It's Been a While but We are Making Progress

I know it's been a long time since we have updated the blog but things are moving along, especially considering what a huge project it is.
Last month we finally got the gym cleared out. For those who don't know or don't remember, the previous owner had left a lot of "stuff" in there we had to move and/or trash. I was lucky to have my inlaws and nieces and nephews come help with that.

We are also putting faux walls in, adding insulation and eventually drywalling.  Since the outside walls are fieldstone we are hoping this will help with the heating and air bill. Below is the kitchen and dining room walls, ready to be drywalled.

This will be our living room. We have the walls and insulation partially done here.

And we have the wall up in our son's soon.  The electricity is supposed to be updated this weekend and then the insulation can go in there.

Hopefully we will have all the walls in, insulated and drywalled by spring. In the spring we have a partial new roof going on and will start working on getting the cabinets in the kitchen.

Our goal is to have it habitable by Summer of 2014. Wish us luck!

Tearin Down Some Walls

Now that we have the majority of the apartment done we are ready to move onto the school. Since we are paying for everything in cash it's a balancing act to figure out how to prioritize projects based on the amount of money on hand.  One thing that isn't too expensive is tearing down walls.  We had three large rooms that we wanted to open up to make a large kitchen/dining area and then we are going to do a half bar and have it open to the living room.

When everything is said and done the 2X4s that you currently see will not be there.  We are just saving them for another project.  :)

The Carpet is Done!

I haven't updated the blog in a bit but we went down over Easter and the new carpet was put in the apartment. We ordered it from Lowe's there in Corbin and the process was way more stressful then it should have been.  We had an installer quit then Lowe's had some people quit.  We also were shorted on some trim and had to get that straightened out but it's done and that's all that matters.
We have some things to move out of the apartment and then it will finally be ready to rent!  Can't wait to get a great tenant in there!
